Gutter Cleaning in Flower Mound, TX

We're in Denton, about 15-20 minutes up I-35E, and we clean, guard, and replace gutters in Flower Mound. Most of the calls we get from down here start with oaks. The town grew up inside the Eastern Cross Timbers, and plenty of those trees are still standing over people's roofs.

Why Flower Mound gutters fill up the way they do

The Eastern Cross Timbers runs through much of western Denton County, Flower Mound included. It's post oak and blackjack oak country, mixed with hickory, elm, and hackberry. The Town cares enough about those woods to have zoned around them: the Cross Timbers Conservation Development District came out of the 2001 Master Plan to protect the largely intact oak woods in central Flower Mound. Lots there run two acres and up, or one acre with half the land kept as open space. That's a lot of oak per roofline.

The two oaks hit your gutters on different schedules. Post oaks bloom in catkins from March into May, and the spent catkins come down in stringy brown clumps that mat together in the trough and sit on the downspout outlet like a cork. Blackjack oaks hang onto their dead leaves through the winter. If your one cleaning happens in November, part of the load is still up in the tree waiting for you.

Then the spring storms roll in and find the gutters packed. You've probably stood at the back window during one of those and watched water pour straight over the front lip, right into the flower bed you just mulched. That's a clog, and nine times out of ten it's sitting at the outlet.

Gutter cleaning in Flower Mound

Our gutter cleaning and repair visit is a hand scoop-out of each run, a flush of each downspout, and a flow test with the hose so we know the water's leaving. We take photos of what we find up there. If a hanger's pulled loose or a corner's weeping, we'll show you before we touch it. On a heavy oak lot, figure on two visits a year: one in late spring once the catkins are done, and one after the oaks have let go of what they're going to drop.

When guards make sense here

On a wooded lot, usually. Catkins and small oak leaves are what fine stainless micro-mesh handles well, and it's stiff enough to take hail without caving. On a newer street where the lot was cleared and the trees are ten years old, a yearly cleaning often costs less, and we'll say so. The gutter guards page covers what we install and what we won't. If you've got an HOA, check whether it cares about finish color before anything goes on the roof. Mesh sits low and mostly disappears from the street, but it's easier to ask first than to hear about it in a letter.

Installation and replacement

Flower Mound grew fast. The town had about 4,400 people in 1980 and more than 50,000 by 2000. If your house went up in that stretch and nobody's replaced the gutters, they're now somewhere past 25 years old. Builder gutter is usually 5", and on a big two-story with long roof planes it can't keep up with a hard North Texas rain even when it's clean.

Our seamless gutter installation is roll-formed in your driveway, 5" or 6" aluminum, sized off the roof area feeding each run. A 6" gutter carries about 40% more water. If you're torn, the 5-inch vs 6-inch guide walks through it.

Downspouts matter as much as the gutter. Parts of Flower Mound sit on sandy Cross Timbers soil over sandstone. Plenty of it sits on clay that swells when it's wet and shrinks when it dries. On clay, a downspout emptying at the corner of the slab soaks one side of the foundation and leaves the rest dry, and your slab doesn't like that. We run extensions and splash control to carry the water out into the yard, and we'll add a downspout or go to 3x4 where one outlet's trying to drain too much roof.

Storms and hail

On June 12, 2023, a storm came through around 8 in the evening and dropped hail as large as baseballs on Lantana, Flower Mound, Highland Village, and Lewisville. If you were home for it, you remember the noise. Gutters take a beating in a storm like that: dents that hold water, crushed downspouts, hangers torn out of the fascia. The roofers usually knock first. Before you sign anything, walk your gutters with our hail damage checklist, and call us if you want photos for your adjuster.

Flower Mound questions

How often should gutters be cleaned in Flower Mound?

Under post oaks and blackjack oaks, plan on twice a year: once in late spring after the catkins are down, and once after the oaks have finished dropping leaves. Blackjacks hang onto their dead leaves through the winter, so a single fall cleaning usually leaves part of the load still up in the tree. With light tree cover, once a year before spring storms can do it.

Are gutter guards worth it on a wooded Flower Mound lot?

Usually, if your lot still has its Cross Timbers oaks. Catkins and small oak leaves are what fine stainless micro-mesh sheds well. On a newer lot with a couple of young yard trees, a once-a-year cleaning often costs less over time, and we'll tell you that on the phone.
